The pros and cons of giving a separate Telangana state.

The Cons :

1) If the Congress agrees for the separate Telangana state, then the party would lose badly in the Andhra and the Rayalaseema region. The Congress may lose the vote bank here permanently.

2) Once the Telangana forms, everyone would give the credit to the TRS party rather than the Congress party. This would certainly make the TRS party a force to reckon with in the Telangana region while the Congress and the TDP would become second rung parties. So there is a danger of Congress losing ground in both the Telangana and the Andhra regions for different reasons.

3) Even if they agree for the Telangana state, Hyderabad would be an issue of contention between the Andhra and the Telangana regions. This would pose a bigger problem for the Congress High Command to solve.

4) Giving Telangana would give rise to similar demands all over India like Bundelkhand in Uttar Pradesh. They would demand for the respective states more forcibly.

The Pros :

1) Giving Telangana has its own share of pros. Since the agitation has become a people’s agitation, giving the Telangana would make the Telangana people show more respect for the Congress party (but loss in Andhra region)

2) Separating the Telangana region would make the development of both Andhra & Telangana faster as it is easy to govern small states than bigger states.
